Aflatoxin Strikes Again

It’s a scary thought. You buy your pet’s food only to find out later that it’s been recalled for having elevated levels of a deadly toxin. Sadly, this fear has become a reality for some.

Just last month, another pet food company has been forced to recall a number of food varieties after 28 dogs died and another 8 fell ill from high levels of aflatoxin. Sadly, this isn’t the first time in 2020 that this has occurred. We’ve even reported on this before.

The FDA stated that “Pets are highly susceptible to aflatoxin poising because, unlike people, who eat a varied diet, pets generally eat the same food continuously over extended periods of time. If a pet’s food contains aflatoxin, the toxin could accumulate in the pet’s system as they continue to eat the same food.” Aflatoxin is produced by a mold which primarily grows on grains.

Although it’s impossible to eliminate every risk, PURELUXE Pet Foods have been grain free since the beginning, and all applicable ingredients are tested for aflatoxin both before they arrive at our factory as well as when they’re there. We also make it a point to offer transparency reports with all of our pet food formulas which gives you a detailed analysis of what they contain, and what they do not. We provide batch specific reporting, nutritional verification, and even proof of natural preservation and heavy metal testing. We know that transparency matters. We know that the best ingredients matter. We know that this matters to you. Give yourself peace of mind and your pet a great tasting pet food. E.A.T. PURELUXE.
