Are cats really ignoring us? Do they deserve our love?

Many cat parents, and certainly many of those that don’t have cats, think that cats have ignored them in the past.  However, a recent study from French researchers puts that into doubt.  It was found that cats react to speech that’s directed at them – especially high pitched voices that we often use when speaking to babies.  Also, it depends on who’s doing the talking as cats would react to the voices of their human parents while ignoring the voices of strangers.

However, unlike dogs, researchers found that cats didn’t always come running when they were requested to do so.  For instance, it was noted that cats might simply move an ear or turn their head towards the speaker.  Dogs, on the other hand, have been artificially selected over hundreds of years to respond to their human parents or masters.  Therefore, even if they may not really want to come to you, they can be trained to do so.

With that, a cat not responding to your commands might just be busy doing something else.  One scientist put it this way: “If you call a human when they are having a nap at the other end of the house, would you go?”.  Therefore, since we now know that cats aren’t just ignoring us to be mean, let’s show them the love that they deserve.  Many pet food industry experts have noted for years that the quality of food that we feed our cats often doesn’t match the quality of the food that we feed our dogs.  Let’s put an end to that.
