Can certain Pet Foods be more likely to cause cancer?

With all of the claims of one pet food being healthier than another, it’s important to take a look

With all of the claims of one pet food being healthier than another, it’s important to take a look at the research from time to time to separate fact from fiction.  In that spirit, researchers from the Medical University of South Carolina in the US have taken look at advanced glycation end products (AGEs) that are present in pet foods.

In their research, they found that AGEs, which are protein and fats that undergo a chemical alteration when exposed to sugars, are tied to the progression of diseases like cancer in dogs.  Furthermore, their research shows that dog food can have about 100 times higher AGE amounts than typical human food, and, since AGEs in humans can detrimental effects, researchers are even more concerned about the effect that AGEs have on dogs.  That being said, more research must be completed as AGEs represent only one part of the research needed to keep our pets healthy for life.

During the AGE research, scientists noted that there are several factors that dictate the level of AGEs including how food is processed and prepared.  In pet foods, sugars and special additives are often added to increase palatability which could affect the levels of AGEs in the food.   At PURELUXE, we do NOT add sugar or strange additives to our formulas.  We use low glycemic carbohydrate sources which contain less starch than most diets.  When you cook this at percentages above 90%, your pet can more easily digest the nutrients that these plant based ingredients provide.  This leads to a healthier life for your pet.  Learn more about all of our dog and cats formulas, as well as our nutrition, at pureluxepetfood.com.
