Does your dog have separation anxiety?

May 26, 2023 | Logan Simmons
We sometimes feel bad when we have to leave our best friend home alone.  However, some dogs can get more lonely than others, and special steps may need to be taken.  Here are some common signs of separation or isolation anxiety (SA or IA):

One of the most common signs of SA or IA is called the velcro dog where your dog follows you from room to room and even tries to follow you out the door.  This can escalate further to pacing where you dog will begin to pace back and forth, start to pant or perhaps wine loudly.  Some more serious signs of SA or IA include house soiling uncontrollably as well as anorexia.  Dogs may also become crate intolerant and can become injured or even die while trying to escape their crates.

If you notice any of these behaviors, you need to first think about the severity.  Is this something that you can better on your own or will you need professional help from your veterinarian or a pet behavioral expert?  Likely, there is a solution.  At PURELUXE Pet Food, we’re happy to write these advice blogs weekly but we’re even more proud to offer your dog or cat the best in nutrition.  All of our formulas have fresh meat first and avoid fillers and additives.  In our view, when you see your dog or cat distressed, it’s best to offer them the best in nutrition so that can be ruled out as a potential problem. Then, you can focus on the right cause.  See all of our formulas at pureluxpetfood.com.
