How a New Dog and an Old Dog Can Say Hello

When it comes time to bring a new dog into a household with dogs already pleasant, we can have some apprehension.  Will the encounter go well or will a fight start?  Here are some tips on how to avoid conflict and how you can make the experience run more smoothly.

First, exercise both the new dog and the old dog to work out any excess energy.  Then, bring the dogs to neutral ground like a friend’s yard (not a dog park) and let them sniff each other out while on leashes.  If all is going well, let them off the leashes and allow them to interact for a little while.

It’s also likely that you’ll need to engage in protected contact at your home for the next several days.  Have the dogs sniff and interact with one another thru a wire pin or a baby gate.  It’s important not to use a crate as the crated dog could panic.  Once things look like they’re going well, take down the barriers and allow them to interact as normal.

Now it’s time to turn to the food!  Hopefully, your old dog was already enjoying a PURELUXE transparent and fresh meat first formula.  It’s now time to take a look at a PURELUXE formula for your new puppy or dog like our Healthy Activity Dog formula that’s perfect for puppies.  See all of our formulas at pureluxepetfood.com.
