According to a recent report, 6% of Americans are spending more on their pet’s food than they do on themselves.  Furthermore, 11% of Americans spend the same amount on their pet’s food as they do on human food.  It all seems to be a trend of increased spending on pets that’s occurred during the pandemic.  In fact, pet food spending increased by more than 31% year over year in 2020.

Why is this?  Like mentioned previously, many have blamed the worldwide pandemic for forcing people to stay home with their pets or convincing former non pet owners to go adopt a new furry friend.  Additionally, consumers seem to have become more health conscious during the pandemic which has translated into higher quality foods for their pets.
