Should I be feeding raw to my cat?

Many of us think of our cats as expert hunters that could conquer all of the mice, rabbits and whatever else might be lurking in the neighborhood.  Therefore, if they seek out raw food, should we be feeding them raw food at home?

A recent article spoke with Dr. Jennifer Coates from DodoVet and got her opinion on raw food.  She stated in regards to raw diets and people’s perceptions: “They are thought to be more nutritious and more digestible because they aren’t as processed”.  However, Dr. Coates goes on to say that “I have seen no scientific evidence supporting the idea that feeding a raw diet provides superior nutrition to pets in comparison to a diet made from the same ingredients that have been appropriately cooked”.

Additionally, raw food can have a number of drawbacks that pet parents don’t consider.  Commercial pet food is required to meet certain nutritional standards that provide a minimum balanced diet.  However, depending on how raw food is prepared, it can contain too little of one nutrient and too much of another.  This can cause long term health issues.  Another and more alarming concern in regards to raw food is the higher likelihood of bacteria being present.  Even proper cooking might not be able to eliminate all bacteria like E. coli and listeria.

At PURELUXE Pet Food, we preach about our food and how safe it is.  All of our food batches undergo safety testing that we make available to you in our transparency reports.  In addition, we meet or exceed all required nutrition guidelines and make sure to source the best ingredients (we even tell you where they came from).  See all of our formulas at pureluxepetfood.com.
