What do do about mold allergies

October 6, 2022 | Logan Simmons
When it comes allergies in our pets, we often don’t know where to find the culprit.  Is it from the environment they’re in?  Is it some sort of cream we’re putting on them?  Is it in their food?  Let’s take a look at one common irritant out there – mold.

For most dogs, a small exposure to mold won’t cause any problems.  However, some dogs are extra sensitive to mold, and that’s a problem since mold can be found just about anywhere.  Most mold allergies are noted on your dog’s skin but mold can also cause respiratory issues.  If you notice these symptoms, it’s best to head to your vet for testing.  Your vet may prescribe treatments like corticosteroids or antihistamines.

You also might want to make some lifestyle changes for your dog.  For instance, frequent baths or wipe-downs with a damp microfiber cloth can remove mold spores on the skin.  It’s also best to avoid damp areas like basements where mold can thrive.

At PURELUXE Pet Food, we know that not every allergy can be eliminated, but we make sure to include as many ingredients as possible that help alleviate allergies.  For instance, we avoid certain meat meals that are commonly associated with allergic reactions, and we add ingredients like coconut oil and flaxseed that help the skin combat the often dry indoor environments that we live in.

We wish both you and your pet the best of health.  See all of our formulas at pureluxepetfood.com.
